Will a college reject the application essay if there are no spaces between paragraphs? I already submitted mine. The formatting was messed up in the Coalition app and the PDF shows a single, large block of text. Should I write to the college?
As I wrote in You NEED To Visually Inspect Your College Essays Before You Hit Submit (As of 2020, There Are Still Bugs in the Common App), after putting in all the time and energy you did to write your essays, why wouldn’t you take the time to make sure t LOOK good (and, of course, don’t contain any bugs or errors)? There have been bugs that deleted the entire last paragraph of essays, causing thousands of students to submit essays with no conclusions (and never even know it). There have been bigs that caused the whole essay to be bolded — which is fine, but not perfect. Not ideal. The Common App formatting is fine, and that won’t be the reason for your rejection.

You won’t get to take part in the common review process that I outlined in the rest of the article. The majority of the time an essay is rejected, the person who read it is just busy with other things or on vacation. The review process takes about two months, and it is always a pain in the ass. My advice: Don’t be an asshole. You'll have a lot of time to reflect upon this decision.
