How did Bhavesh Mishra make notes for the UPSC (CSE)?

Making notes is very important part of the preparation as. It becomes a single source of study Concise and too the point so easy to revise You don't have to pick up books again and again Easy to memorize as you have made those notes HOW TO MAKE NOTES ? PRELIMS Prepare tables and charts for memorising facts for prelim exam For history make concise notes chronology wise to remember events For geography , make a list of few important points like countries through which tropic of Cancer / Capricorn/ Equator passes , a list of cold/ hot ocean currents mountain ranges and associated river , city and river origin etc. You can check previous year questions to make these notes. For polity , refer laxmikanth only but as mentioned above you can make a chart depicting president , speaker etc their appointment procedure , removal procedure etc because you tend to get confused in the exam. Same goes for Constitutional and Non Constitutional bodies. For environment , make list of national park , tiger reserver , important organisations and treaties. Shilpa Bhatti's answer to What is the trick to remember the important national parks & wildlife sanctuaries of India ? For economy make a small glossary of basic definitions . Make a list of defence news related to missiles. Make a list of space missions ,pslv / gslv launches For schemes you can refer to vision ias booklet but make notes on some peculiar or same named schemes. Like we have three UDAN , UDAAN and UDAAN schemes .D Rest you can read from basic books for prelim , no need to make very elaborate notes for prelims but some few concise summary pages. MAINS For mains certain effort has to put in while making notes. You should consult the syllabus and make sure that you have atleast 2 pages on each topic given in the syllabus. For example . GS IV syllabus has topic probity in governance , you should have 1 page note on meaning of probity , any example or quote and of possible any flowchart. The benefit is that you can revise that page before exam in just few minutes rather than opening different books. Start making notes (after atleast two readings) on loose A4 sheet , so that you can add any new development or any new source you come across. I made notes for almost every GS paper but if you want , you can skip history part as it is static and won't change. If you consult any extra book for history then just add additional points on book itself. Making notes is extremely important for GS2 as it is a dynamic part and most of the questions come from daily news . Make small notes of every polity related news , write points for and against for that topic and solutions. You add these points from varied newspaper article. Shilpa Bhatti's answer to Which books should I refer to for governance, social justice, and international relations for the UPSC Mains? For GS 3 , economy part do make short notes for economic survey as those are beneficial in essay as well as during interview later on. For internal security, refer to basic sources and write a single page summary on each internal security threat , any scheme / project / policy by government. For science and technology part , collect examples of applications of new technologies. Like for example regarding artificial intelligence I read an article in ‘The Hindu' which had an example of JP Morgan Chase and Co. 's recently developed artificial intelligence programme called COIN, a learning machine that interprets legal agreements in just a few seconds, a task that consumed 3,60,000 work hours for lawyers and loan officers annually. For disaster management make notes on disasters which occured in the past one year as there is 90% chance a question will come from there. For GS4 I have already mentioned that pick up terms given in the syllabus , write its definition , example and a related quote. Shilpa Bhatti's answer to What was your source for the GS Paper IV of the UPSC Mains? FEW POINTS I WANT TO SHARE When you make short notes it is really easy to revise them. Those 5 continuous days of mains exam are really difficult and testing , but still you need to revise even a day before so these notes come handy. Secondly , as many of you are asking for my notes in the personal messages . I have notes on every topic, but it is difficult and time consuming task to get them scanned. But still I will try. Also always remember that from notes made by others you can grasp at max around 20% –30%. Reason being the notes are a short form of the one particular topic , so you can't actually study from them. I may find some point really obvious and not include in my notes but that thing may be a new thing for you. Lastly , while I make notes Iam subconsciously storing that information in my brain as a visual memory. In crux I would suggest you to make you make your own notes ( although I will try my best to scan them.) Make notes to make your preparation systematic and easy. HAPPY STUDYING .)
