Can I write movie scripts in PDF format?
Well there is no singular answer to this, however there are certain basic things to remember, post cracking an idea for a movie. Write a Logline. A logline is a one line description of the movie. However complex the idea is, it always can be summed up in a line. Movies like The Prestige and Inception also can be summed up in a line. Write a Short Synopsis. A short synopsis is generally 500–600 words and is a slightly detailed version of a logline. It should tell the whole idea in 500–600 words. You can then go on to write a Long Synopsis 6–10 pages. Develop your characters. Generally movies have a Protagonist, an Antagonist, a love interest, a comic relief, a reflection character (the character which reminds the Protagonist of his goals etc.) Define their goals/objectives. The objective of the Protagonist (and his journey to accomplish) is what the story is about. The goal of the Antagonist is to stop the Protagonist from reaching his goal. This becomes the Obstacle of the Protagonist. Have a structure intact. Before starting to write scenes, have it written what the scenes are going to be about. Scenes should have clear objectives and takeaways. This also gives you a clear Beginning, Middle and End. Start writing the first draft. Write clear action lines and dialogs. Also while writing, don't edit. Editing is a process which comes into place after the forst draft has been written. Dialogs. Don't worry too much about dialogs in the First draft. If a good dialog flows naturally you can place it in the first draft. But while you redraft make sure your movie has some influential yet real dialogs. Dialogs are something which give great credibility and a long shelf life in the memory of the audience. Also, dialogs should have some clear motives, either t reveal some information about the character, reveal information about the situation or the plot, should be a setup for a joke or a punchline of the joke. The last rule is generally implied for comedies but I believe the presence of humour makes the story flow seamlessly, there is a great deal of humour in a movie like Gangs of Wasseypur, Taxi Driver, Good Fellas etc. If the dialog does not stand true of any of these, it could easily be cut out Take feedback and redraft. The first draft is generally a vomit of ideas. A script needs to redrafted atleast 3–4 times. Please keep in mind that the changes you make yourself do not count as a draft. Narrate or make people/proffesionals read your draft, note the feedback and incorporate it according to what you deem necessary. I have written the answer assuming you know about the Screenwriting format and Screenwriting softwares like Celtx, Final Draft etc. If not please refer to YouTube channels like Film Riot, Filmmaker IQ, Lessons from the Screenplay etc.
